The Government Finance Officers Association (GFOA) announced that the City of Victoria, Minnesota has been awarded the Distinguished Budget Presentation Award for its 2024 budget for the fourth year.

The award represents a significant achievement by the City of Victoria. It reflects the commitment of the governing body and staff to meeting the highest principles of governmental financing. In order to receive the Certificate of Achievement, the City had to satisfy nationally recognized criteria for financial reporting.  

These guidelines are designed to assess how well an entity’s budget serves as:

• A policy document
• A financial plan
• An operations guide
• A communications device

Budget documents must be rated “proficient” in all four categories, and in the fourteen mandatory criteria within those categories, to receive the award.

When a distinguished Budget Presentation Award is granted to an entity, a Certificate of Recognition for Budget Presentation is also presented to the City of Victoria Finance Department as the primary department responsible for having achieved the notable award.

This is the fourth year the City of Victoria Finance Department has received the Distinguished Budget Presentation Award due to the dedicated efforts of Assistant City Manager and Finance Director Trisha Pollock.

Each year, over 1,700 governments receive the Distinguished Budget Presentation Award. All award-winning submissions are posted quarterly on GFOA's website. Award recipients have pioneered efforts to improve the quality of budgeting and provide an excellent example for other governments throughout North America.
