Answer the Call to Serve Our Community

The Victoria Fire Department calls you to come to the Annual Fire Department Recruitment Open House.

In many communities, paid-on-call firefighters answer the call of our families, friends, and neighbors who need assistance. Anything from car accidents to heart attacks, from house fires to technical rescues, paid-on-call firefighters show up to protect the lives and property of those we care about.

Paid-on-call firefighters have many different reasons as to why they answer the call of duty. Some firefighters like the challenges and adrenaline rush that comes with the job, while others like to expand their emergency skills, techniques, and knowledge. Every one of them answers the call in order to help someone in need.

Paid-on-call firefighters today do more than just put out fires or bandage wounds. They are the first line of defense in natural and man-made disasters. They respond to vehicle accidents, hazardous materials incidents, specialized rescue situations and a vast array of emergency medical services.

“Serving as a firefighter on behalf of the City of Victoria is such a rewarding job. Firefighters serve our community members through some of their most difficult times. The ability make a difference in someone’s life, no matter how small, is such a reward,” remarked Fire Chief Andrew Heger.

The Victoria Fire Department is comprised of dedicated and trained volunteers from the community who strive to minimize the impacts of hazards and medical emergencies to our citizenry with integrity and compassion. As the City of Victoria continues to grow, the Victoria Fire Department is actively responding to the growing need for new paid-on-call firefighters. The Victoria Fire Department is now recruiting interested residents to learn how to answer the call to serve their community.
